This iconic addition to an existing 1950s ranger station provides a fresh new focal point for the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center at the western edge of the Willamette National Forest. Visitors are greeted by a striking entrance structure that attracts travelers along the beautiful and historic McKenzie Highway.
Immediate attention is drawn by the structure’s massive log columns, which were formed from nearby trees logged by the Forest Service and stored in a tree cooler for six months prior to installation. Specially-selected hardware, slate flooring, and lighting fixtures compliment the Craftsman-style architecture. The often snow-capped mountains to the north are beautifully framed by the station’s massive windows gracing the front entrance.
