Kids FIRST is a nonprofit serving some of our community’s most vulnerable. By advocating for and providing services to children who are victims of crimes, specialized facilities were needed to support their critical mission.
When a child enters the facility, safety, discretion, and privacy are of utmost importance. PIVOT used trauma-informed design principles to create a facility giving the victims a sense of security in what can be very traumatic instances.
PIVOT selected cost-effective natural materials and wood textures including wall tiles with 3D leaf patterns for a calming presence. In the exam and interview rooms, light dimmers and positive distractions are used in a subtle way to give the children a sense of control and agency. Furniture was selected to be non-institutional and inviting, yet with the proper fabrics and cleanability required in this setting.
