Successful multi-family residential design is all about attention to both small amenities and human scale to create a sense of community through carefully crafted pathways and public spaces between buildings. This 56-unit complex of affordable housing includes a variety of apartment types tailored for individuals and families of differing sizes and abilities.
The site layout and architectural character is informed by the adjacent historic Willakenzie Grange (1913), where Craftsman influences are seen throughout the development. Features include architectural elements such as the higher roof pitches and taller windows that reflect styles typical of the Grange, as well as creation of a tree lined boulevard with a living canopy at the entrance.
Shared site amenities include a LEED Silver-certified community building, common green spaces and play areas, community garden plots, and direct access to Willakenzie Park. Rain gardens, solar panels, and ecologically conscious building materials contribute to the project's Earth Advantage Platinum certification for the 10 residential buildings.
